Hearts of Taleef

Khadija’s story

When did you first come to Ta’leef?

Khadija: I was one of those kids that was running around, doing the cartwheels and coming in for the cookies and the tea. But it’s more of this past year where I’ve been able to come again like a fresh new start sort of thing; and really be present and attend the classes and being in the moment. I look at the little kids now I’m just like wow that was me one time!

What is your fondest memory at Ta’leef?

Khadija: Finally being able to go to the inheritors retreat; it was honestly an experience of a lifetime. Just really building connections and relationships with youth from all over the Bay and the Challenge Day with Micah and just really being in the moment with everyone else; having time away from my mundane everyday life and being out in nature was a really life changing experience. And I feel like that was a turning point in my life. I learned a lot and it was the start of a lot of personal growth.

Why do you come to Ta’leef?

Khadija: Because Ta’leef feels like a home to me. It is basically a home away from home. Whenever I come here, I’m always greeted by smiles Alhamdulillah; seeing everyone that I love, these connections, I can be myself without the fear of being judged and it honestly just feels like a sanctuary.
