Sacred Learning & Community

Living & Learning is the core of Ta’leef Collective’s community programming. Coupling sacred education with arts and culture, this unique approach to learning benefits a wide range of attendees from first time visitors to seasoned students.
The goals of the Living & Learning programming is as follows:

  • Provide attendees with applicable social and spiritual skills to assist them in their personal journeys.
  • Offer attendees an understanding of Islam that is relevant to their daily practice.
  • Build community through fellowship and edutainment.

Since our inception, Living & Learning has reached thousands of people, with offerings including Arabic Language, Qur’an, Islamic Theology, Law and Spirituality, Mindfulness, Photography, Poetry, and the arts. Such offerings include weekly, monthly, and quarterly classes, workshops, and events.

we offer the following programs:

MAWLID Fremont

This weekly gathering follows a compilation of nasheeds and prayers, titled “Remembering the Beloved.” Each gathering is followed by a short talk and our signature Moroccan mint tea and sweets.

ISLAM: SUBMISSION, FAITH & BEAUTY Fremont

Come and explore one of the world's largest faith traditions, where questions are encouraged and everyone is welcome. This monthly informal discussion-based workshop is aimed at individuals who are curious about Islam and Muslims. Participants will have an opportunity to delve into the foundational concepts of Islam, providing an introduction to the faith.

BEING MUSLIM Fremont

Based off the text, “Being Muslim,” by Asad Tarsin, this weekly class will give seekers an understanding of the vision and spirit of Islam, beginning at the most basic level. Topics will include: an introduction to the Quran, prayer and fasting, morality in everyday life, developing good character, destiny and fate, and the life of the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him).

SORORITY, SUPPORT AND SPIRITUALITY Fremont

A monthly gathering for women (ages 18-45) to commune, reflect, discuss, and gain strength and support from each other. We will talk about spirituality, self-development, relevant and contemporary topics, as well as issues related to the various roles and responsibilities of Muslim women in today's world.

CONTENT OF CHARACTER Fremont

Based off the text: “Content of Character: Ethical Sayings of the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him),” and translated by Shaykh Hamza Yusuf, this weekly class will offer an opportunity to learn about narrations from the last Prophet and learn about his life through these sayings. This class will also offer practical ways of implementing his teachings in our life.

Join the community for our monthly speaker series, as we explore the legacy of Islam in America, rooted in contemporary issues & the spiritual journey we collectively embark upon.

BURDAH Chicago

Come listen to the weekly recitation of the famous poem, “Qasidat al-Burda”, “Poem of the Mantle”, with our community, and join us for our signature Moroccan mint tea during the gathering.

INTRODUCING ISLAM Chicago

LUNCH AND LEARN Chicago

These monthly gatherings serve as a means for community building, to sit down and learn about our community members and their life's work, and to break bread with one another. Come and sit with teachers and scholars, and feed both body and soul.

MINDFULNESS RETREAT Chicago

A quarterly daylong retreat, this program will offer simple techniques teaching the mindfulness practice which includes stress reduction, heightened emotional awareness and understanding, as well as an increased acceptance and compassion towards the self and others. We’ll offer guided meditations, teachings, and plenty of room for open questions and sharing.

LIVING RIGHT Chicago

Borrowing from traditional texts and conventional wisdom, “Living Right” is a forum for newcomers to Islam, young people re-committing themselves to the Deen, or anyone seeking practical ways to progress spiritually.
